If you are a new shooter, you may be asking yourself “What firearm should i use in a Self Defense situation” or “I have no idea what firearm to buy where to start”?
Those are some really great questions, and today I will do my best to answer them.
So you are a new shooter, you want to carry for self defense, and you do not know where to start. You have come to the right place for advice. Most often than not your brother’s advice is not sound advice. This is especially true for women who are just starting.
A firearm that one would use for self defense and especially if they want to carry everyday, should be one the defender is comfortable with, can shoot well, and knows how to operate. That firearm may be a Walther P22, a S&W 38 Special, or a 1911.
So how does one find out you might ask, well some instructors provide various types of firearms to try and then you can decide from there. They may make recommendations based on the size of your hand, how much you are willing to train, how you are going to carry, where you are going to carry, and a whole bunch of other criteria that may be pertinent to your situation.
Triple A Coach is one of those companies that can help you find the right gun for you and we support local businesses that sell firearms like Stockpile Cache.

Another option, and more expensive I might add, is to rent at a gun range. Generally speaking they will let you rent a firearm for a nominal fee but then you have to buy the ammunition to go along with it, and if you are new you still need a professional (not your brother, unless he is a professional as well) to help you determine what is right for you.
In addition to finding the right firearm, you need to know where, when, and how to carry. The purchase of a firearm, training, concealed carry application, ammunition, equipment and so on should not be in vain because you decided that carrying everyday is a hassle.
This is where a true professional can help you determine what is comfortable for you and how to stay within the law while carrying your pistol for self defense.
